My New Favorite Mexican Restaurant in Omaha
After our usual visit to the Omaha Farmers Market, my wife and I were craving Mexican food. Our usual spot was closed until dinner, and it was late morning, so we decided to head home. On our way, we drove past a restaurant we’d seen before but never tried: Pueblo Bonito Authentic Mexican Restaurant, also known as “Maple 88 Mexican Kitchen,” located at 88th & Maple Streets.
The building, once a Sizzler where my family frequently dined, has seen many restaurants come and go. Intrigued, we decided to give it a shot. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted, though we were initially handed breakfast menus. With Mexican food on our minds, we asked if they served lunch. The waitress promptly brought us their full menu, which was extensive and easy to read, even if some Spanish terms were new to us.
We quickly decided on a large enchilada meal and an order of three Mexican tacos to share. The restaurant itself was bright, welcoming, clean, and had interesting decor. As we waited for our food, we admired the delicious-looking dishes being served around us.
When our food arrived, we divided the plates and started with the tacos. Let me tell you, the street tacos were the best I’ve ever had! We poured some of their homemade green sauce, and they were superb. The enchilada meal came with beans and rice. The beans were so delightful I joked about needing a container to take home. As for the rice, it was light and flavorful, a rare find for someone picky about Mexican rice.
We each had one ground beef and one chicken enchilada. While the beef was very good, the chicken enchilada stole the show—it was the best I’ve ever eaten. The meals were reasonably priced, making our bill quite affordable.
The manager (or owner) stopped by to check on us, and I happily shared that Pueblo Bonito is now my favorite Mexican restaurant. She mentioned their daily specials, and we agreed we’d be returning often.
Pueblo Bonito Authentic Mexican Restaurant exceeded our expectations. From the warm welcome to the exceptional food, it’s a hidden gem worth discovering. Whether you’re a taco enthusiast or a fan of enchiladas, you’ll find something to love here. I can’t say enough good things about this place and can’t wait for our next visit.
